How V-Track Works

V-Track is developed by integrating three main technologies:

  • Global Positioning System (GPS),
  • Global System for Mobile (GSM), and
  • Google Map Application Programming Interface (API).
This integration allows V-Track to monitor the position of vehicle track in real time, and it can be accessed by online via internet.

The object tracking position is determined by using two sources: GPS and Base Transmitter Service (BTS) of cellular operator. Yet, GPS is more accurate to be used compared with BTS. Then, the position is sent by using General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), which is available in GSM. As a result, V-Track can be used in large coverage of area, wherever as long as there is signal of GPS and GPRS.

At the client side, V-Track is developed base on Java Mobile, so that V-Track can be applied at different mobile devices which support Java.

V-Track has uniqueness compare with other tracking product. The uniqueness of this product, compared with other products, are:

Car rental can use V- Track to know the position of the vehicle which is being rent. Fleet Management can monitor the position of vehicle convoy.

The features of this product are divided into two:

Administrator-side:

  1. The administrator-side use online system,
  2. administrator can monitor in real-time,
  3. administrator can monitor the visualization movement of tracking object,

  5. administrator can know the last position of tracking object,
  6. administrator can choose the kinds of map (Map, Satellite, Hybrid, Terrain),
  7. administrator can do Zoom in, Zoom out, Pan,
  8. application applies auto centre to the object,
  9. application is able to store the data of position sent by wireless,
  10. application can display single monitoring system,
  11. application can display multi monitoring system,
  12. application can display tracking object position history.

User-side:

  1. User can look his position in map view,
  2. user can press panic button when he/she is in danger,
  3. user can display position data in the tracking object,
  4. user can choose two systems of position determination: GPS and BTS,
  5. user can use GPS (Global Positioning System) module,
  6. user and administrator can interact each other.

Quality of V-Track

V-Track is an application which is developed by using technologies with high quality. V-Track integrates three main technologies: Global Positioning System (GPS), Global System for Mobile (GSM), and Global Map API. The map visualization with various forms (Map, Satellite, Hybrid, Terrain) can be chosen to make the monitoring process easier, and the monitoring is able to be carried out in all places which are connected with internet.

The technologies integrated in application allow V-Track to be more flexible and reliable. The use of GPS can produce more accurate position. The use of GPRS makes the data sending able to be done by wireless via internet. Thus, V-Track can produce good position accuracy and it can be used in all places covered by GPS and GPRS net. The coverage of the use of this technology is across country, not limited to one country.

V-Track has been tested. The test ran well, and it showed good result.

The technologies integrated to produce V-Track, have been competed in some competitions: in Indosat Wireless Innovation Contest (IWIC), AMIKOM ICT Award (AMICTA), and Nominated Indonesia ICT Award (INAICTA).
